Tribal Fabrics and Flatten It
Tribal's reputation rests on fabric as much as fit. Here is what their named technologies actually are, in their own words — and a few things people assume that Tribal has never claimed.
Flatten It
What is Flatten It?
A registered Tribal technology built into the garment: a hidden mesh panel that holds you in for a smoother appearance at the core, paired with a stretch waistband, in a breathable material.
Tribal describes the design as shaping, flattening and flattering with a built-in tummy-control panel.
What comes in Flatten It?
More than you would expect. Pull-ons, bermudas, trousers, ankle pants, capris, leggings and skorts — and one-piece swimwear, where Tribal says it enhances curves for a slimming silhouette.
Is Flatten It uncomfortable, like shapewear?
It is built into the garment rather than worn under it, and Tribal specifies a breathable material and a stretch waistband. That said, comfort is personal — this is exactly the kind of thing worth trying on rather than reading about. Come try a pair.
The Fabrics
What is Boundless Stretch?
Tribal's stretch denim fabric — soft, with stretch that adjusts to any shape and strong recovery, engineered against sagging through the day.
What are Tribal's clothes actually made of?
It varies a great deal by style, which is part of why care instructions differ. Real compositions we have checked: 68% cotton / 29% nylon / 3% spandex on a shirt; 64% Tencel / 27% cotton / 8% polyester / 1% spandex on a twill pant; 91% cotton / 7% polyester / 2% spandex on stretch denim; 100% cotton on a Blue Thread jean.
The composition is on every garment's label and product page. We do not publish fixed formulas here because Tribal reformulates.
What is Techno Lux Scuba?
Tribal names it as one of their fabrics but publishes no description of what it is, so we are not going to invent one. If you have a piece in it and want to know how to treat it, bring it in and we will look at the label with you.
What Tribal Does Not Claim
Is Tribal clothing wrinkle resistant?
Tribal makes no wrinkle-resistance claim anywhere, so neither will we. Some of their fabrics travel better than others in practice — ask us about a specific piece.
Is it moisture wicking or quick dry?
No such claim is published by Tribal. Their Active & Lounge category exists, but the performance language does not.
Does Tribal use recycled or organic materials?
Tribal publishes no recycled, organic or low-impact materials claim, and no sustainability page. We would rather say that than repeat something we cannot verify.
Is Tribal clothing made in Canada?
No, and this one gets assumed a lot. Tribal was founded in Montreal and is still headquartered in Canada, but its garments are manufactured in Guatemala, Taiwan, China, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, per the company's own supply chain report.
Montreal-founded is true. Made in Canada is not.
