Merle Norman Skincare Systems Explained
Merle Norman organizes skincare into systems rather than single products, each built around one concern. Here is what each one is actually for, so you can narrow it down before you come in.
The Systems
What is the Skintelligent System?
Merle Norman's probiotic technology line. It uses ingredients described as working in harmony with the skin's natural processes for optimum balance, targeting environmental stressors, elasticity, texture and the look of pores. The named actives are ProBioBalance CLR™ NP and ProRenew Complex CLR™.
Four products: cleanser, toner, moisturizer, eye moisturizer.
What is Brilliant-C for?
Vitamin C, aimed at the appearance of dark spots and discoloration, and at overall brightness. Five products: cleanser, toner, brightening serum, moisturizer and eye cream.
I have sensitive skin. What does Merle Norman recommend?
The Gentle Solutions system, formulated without parabens, oils, colorants, dyes and other known irritants. It leans on aloe vera, chamomile and cucumber extract, and the cleanser is made without drying alcohols.
Four products: cleanser, toner, eye cream, moisturizer.
What is in the Anti-Aging Complex system?
Eight items aimed at reducing the appearance of age lines and helping prevent them: a serum, night cream, an emulsion with SPF 30, a dry oil serum, eye cream, an eye treatment with SPF 15, the Age Defying Duo and a body lotion.
How is Wrinkle Smoother different from Anti-Aging Complex?
Wrinkle Smoother is narrower — it targets expression lines and wrinkles specifically while improving hydration, and it contains Argireline. Four items: Wrinkle Smoother, Lift & Firm Serum, Wrinkle Smoother Eye and Wrinkle Smoother Lips.
Merle Norman notes these go on after cleansing and toning, with serums and treatments first, then moisturizer.
What is the Daily Moisture system?
Consistent hydration day and night, suitable for most skin types and especially skin that feels dry or dehydrated. Five items: Milky Cleanser, toner, Daily Moisture Cream, Nightly Moisture Cream and Moisture Rich Facial Treatment.
What is Aqua Bliss?
A hydration system built on a 97 percent natural and plant-based formula, made without parabens, drying alcohols, fragrances or gluten. It works on strengthening the skin's natural moisture barrier, using lavender powder, gingko biloba, jojoba and natural oils.
Two products — a facial moisturizer and a cleansing lotion — meant as one step within a fuller routine rather than a whole routine on their own.
Is there anything for breakouts?
The Acne Defense line. Merle Norman frames it as keeping pores free of the debris and dead skin cells that trap oil and bacteria. Currently a spot treatment, used after cleansing, morning and/or evening.
What about redness?
The Anti-Redness line, made for color correction and soothing. The Red Correct Treatment Primer uses cannabis sativa seed oil, Cica extract and Ashwagandha root extract, and goes on after cleansing and before moisturizer or makeup.
The Classics
Does Merle Norman still make the original products?
Some of them, yes. The Cleansing Cream is still sold. So is Miracol, now as a Revitalizing Cream, and both Energizing Concentrate and Fine Line Minimizer are still in the serums and masks range.
Merle Norman's founding product was a set of three: Cleansing Cream, Miracol and Powder Base Foundation, mixed in her own kitchen.
How do I use Miracol Revitalizing Cream?
Merle Norman's directions: apply with fingertips to face and neck after cleansing, avoiding eyes, hairline and lips. Let it dry for 8 to 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly or remove with a damp cloth.
It is a thick, rich formula that applies without a brush, suits all skin types, and is oil-free and gluten-free.
Choosing and Checking
How do I know which system is right for me?
Come in for a complimentary skin assessment. That is Merle Norman's own recommendation for this exact question, and it takes the guesswork out of it. Call us at 830-693-7573 if you would like to check we have someone free.
Are the ingredients ever reformulated?
Yes. Merle Norman notes that as they continue to evolve their formulas, ingredients may change from time to time. Always check the current product page or the packaging rather than an older list — including this one.
Does Merle Norman test on animals?
Merle Norman's own statement is: “Merle Norman Cosmetics does not conduct animal testing on our products or ingredients, nor ask others to do so on our behalf, except when absolutely required by law.”
We are quoting that in full rather than paraphrasing it, because the exception at the end is part of the statement.
