Caite & Kyla Fabrics, Embroidery and Care
Caite & Kyla builds almost everything we carry out of three fabrics, Tencel, tissue cotton and cotton denim, and then covers them in embroidery. This guide explains what each of those fabrics actually is, what the embroidery is like to live with, and how to look after a piece once it is yours. Where the brand does not publish an answer, we say so rather than guess.
The Fabrics
What fabrics does Caite & Kyla use?
Across the pieces Accents has carried: Rayon Tencel, tissue cotton, cotton denim and chambray. The brand runs a whole Tencel category on its own website, which tells you how central that one is.
What is Tencel in a Caite & Kyla top?
Tencel is a soft, fluid fabric made from wood pulp. In Caite & Kyla pieces it is what gives the Cora, Ida and Olivia styles their lightweight feel and the drape they are described by. The brand gives Tencel its own shopping category.
What is Rayon Tencel?
It is how two of our Caite & Kyla listings describe the fabric, and both the Cora Blouse and the Adriana Pant are given as 100% Rayon Tencel. It behaves like a rayon, soft and fluid rather than crisp.
Is Tencel the same as cotton?
No. Cotton comes from the cotton plant's fibers; Tencel is made from wood pulp. In practice a Tencel Caite & Kyla top drapes and flows where a cotton one holds more shape.
What is tissue cotton on a Caite & Kyla blouse?
A very lightweight cotton, named for being about as fine as tissue. Our Alanis Blouse listing describes it as "incredibly soft, breathable, and slightly sheer for a beautiful, textured drape." The Jules Blouse is tissue cotton too.
Is Caite & Kyla tissue cotton see through?
It can be slightly sheer, and we would rather say so. Our Alanis Blouse listing describes the tissue cotton as "slightly sheer." Many people wear a cami underneath. Call (830) 693-7573 and we will hold the actual piece up for you and tell you honestly.
What is chambray?
A lightweight woven cotton with a denim-like look but far less weight. We carried a Chambray Embroidered Sleeveless Maxi Dress from the brand. Accents can often reorder, so call (830) 693-7573 if that is what you are after.
Is the Emma Shirt real denim?
Our listing describes it as a denim shirt with an embroidered star detail. It is a shirt weight denim, cut as a button front top rather than as a jacket. The exact fiber content is on the sewn-in label.
What is the fiber content of a Caite & Kyla piece?
It varies by style, and the brand does not publish a fabric breakdown for the whole line. Two of ours state 100% Rayon Tencel. For any other piece the sewn-in label is the authority, and if yours has worn away, call (830) 693-7573 and we will read the label on the same style from our floor.
Are Caite & Kyla fabrics lightweight?
The ones we carry are. Tencel, tissue cotton and chambray are all described as lightweight in our own listings, which is part of why these pieces work so well through a Texas spring and summer.
The Embroidery
What kind of embroidery does Caite & Kyla do?
Floral, geometric and figurative, placed rather than printed. Our Olivia Shirt listing describes "geometric and floral embroidered detailing" on the front, back and sleeves; the Ida Blouse has multicolor floral embroidery; the Emma Shirt has an embroidered star.
Is Caite & Kyla embroidery done by hand?
The brand's own wholesale page calls its range "Hand-embroidered tops, dresses, tees & artisan leather handbags," and its about page says every piece is handcrafted in India by artisans it takes pride in. We are quoting the brand rather than certifying the method ourselves.
What is tonal embroidery on a Caite & Kyla top?
Embroidery worked in the same color as the fabric, so you read it as texture rather than as a pattern. The Alanis Blouse is the Caite & Kyla piece we have carried with tonal embroidery.
Can embroidery be placed over a print?
Yes, and the Cora Blouse is the example: our listing describes floral embroidery applied over a watercolor leopard print. It gives you pattern and texture in the same piece.
Will the embroidery on a Caite & Kyla top catch or pull?
Any surface embroidery can snag on a bag strap or a bracelet, which is simply how embroidered clothing behaves. Turn the piece inside out to wash and it will stay nicer for longer.
Does the embroidery go all the way around?
It depends on the style. The Olivia Shirt has embroidery on the front, back and sleeves; the Emma Shirt's star is a placed detail. Call (830) 693-7573 and we will describe exactly where it sits on the piece in front of us.
Caring For Your Piece
How do I wash a Caite & Kyla top?
Follow the sewn-in care label on your garment first. Two of the styles we have carried give instructions on the listing: the Olivia Shirt says machine wash cold, and the Alanis Blouse says machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and hang to dry.
Does Caite & Kyla publish care instructions?
Not per garment. The brand's own FAQ gives only general advice, that you should "always check the care label or instructions on the garment." We are not going to invent a brand care routine, so the sewn-in label is the answer.
Can I put a Caite & Kyla top in the dryer?
The brand publishes no dryer guidance and the one listing of ours that mentions drying says hang to dry. With lightweight Tencel and tissue cotton we would hang or lay flat rather than tumble, but your garment's own label governs.
Should I iron an embroidered Caite & Kyla top?
If you do, press from the reverse side so the iron does not flatten the embroidery, and use the setting your garment's care label calls for. The brand publishes no ironing guidance of its own.
How do I stop a Tencel top from wrinkling?
Tencel generally hangs well. Give the piece room on the hanger rather than crushing it in the closet. The brand publishes no specific guidance here and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Can a Caite & Kyla piece be dry cleaned?
Check your garment's sewn-in label, because the brand does not publish a dry cleaning instruction. If the label is gone, call (830) 693-7573 and we will read the label on the same style from our floor.
What should I do if a stitch pulls loose?
Call Accents first at (830) 693-7573. We would rather look at it than have you guess, and we will tell you honestly whether it is a small repair or something to take up with us another way.
Does Caite & Kyla offer a warranty?
The brand publishes no consumer warranty that we can find, so we will not describe one. If something is wrong with a piece you bought from us, start with us: call (830) 693-7573.
Will an embroidered top shrink?
The brand publishes nothing on shrinkage for its own garments. Washing cold and avoiding high dryer heat is the general advice its FAQ gives for clothing, and that is as far as we will take it.
